Dr. Richard Steinfeld’s orthopaedic practice includes sports injuries, hip, knee, and shoulder reconstruction, general orthopaedics (including foot/ankle and hand surgery), as well as fracture care.
Dr. Steinfeld was born on February 5, 1966. His education and training have been unique and extensive. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison receiving a degree in Psychology. He was awarded his Medical Degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – The New Jersey Medical School in 1992. Dr. Steinfeld continued his education at the University of Tennessee-Physician Executive MBA Program and was awarded his Master’s Degree in Business Administration in 2010.
Dr. Steinfeld completed his internship in General Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After US Naval Flight Training at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute, he spent three years as Flight Surgeon and Head of Aviation Medicine at Naval Air Station Key West. Dr. Steinfeld returned to the Mayo Clinic and completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. He was then chosen to undertake a Clinical Fellowship in Knee Surgery with John Bartlett, MD, in Melbourne, Australia finishing in June 2001.
His military honors include the US Navy Achievement Medal for Heroic Achievement (1994), runner-up for the 1995 NAVAIRLANT Flight Surgeon of the Year, and the US Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service (1996). Academic Honors include the Mark B. Coventry Clinical Research Award and numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.
